Fuck High Fructose Corn Syrup!! -awesumo

High Fructose Corn Syrup: Unsafe in Any Amount
by Jennifer Kelly, CHC, AADP • Kings Park, NY

In a recent television commercial sponsored by the Corn Refiners Association, one concerned mom is made to look the fool when she fails to respond as to why she should avoid giving her children high fructose corn syrup. She, like many of us, has heard that the seemingly omnipresent sweetener is unhealthy. She’s absolutely correct.

The multimillion-dollar advertising campaign launched by the CRA is a result of growing awareness of the dangers of HFCS and the desire to keep concerned health-seekers in the dark about the truth. Unlike the stunned mom in the commercial, readers of this editorial will be armed with a clear response when confronted with HFCS proponents.

The website accompanying the CRA’s television ad series, www.sweetsurprise.com, claims that HFCS is natural because it is made from corn. By that logic, consuming ethanol, also made from corn, should be as safe as sugar and “fine in moderation.” The fact is, however, that there is nothing natural about HFCS – there is no tree or plant producing it; it does not sprout from the earth. HFCS is the result of a complicated manufacturing process which breaks down cornstarch and treats it with three different enzymes, two of which are genetically modified organisms, according to Linda Forristal, in a 2001 article appearing in the Weston Price Foundation quarterly magazine. In addition to the GMO enzymes used, the majority of corn in the United States is also genetically modified, thereby yielding a product (HFCS) highly foreign to the human digestive and nervous systems.

The CRA claims HFCS is nutritionally, the same as sugar, yet the man-made substance does not metabolize in the body the same way table sugar (sucrose) does. The main difference between the two is that HFCS contains unbound fructose (which, among other concerns, has been found to interfere with the heart’s use of key minerals) and glucose molecules, while sucrose is a larger molecule that metabolizes into glucose and fructose. According to research by renowned food expert Dr. Joseph Mercola, as well as by Dr. Meira Fields at the USDA, HFCS metabolizes into fat more rapidly than any other sugar, especially when consumed in liquid form, such as in sodas, soft drinks and juices.

The idea that HFCS is fine “in moderation” is also problematic. Other than the belief that consumption of GMOs in any amount is unsafe (evidence of the dangers of GMOs is well documented), there is the undeniable reality that HFCS is difficult to avoid, as it appears in a vast multitude of foods and beverages, from bread and cereals to ketchup and cough syrups. Indeed, it is an arduous task to consume HFCS only in moderation. The startling fact that HFCS is the #1 source of calories in the United States speaks to the virtual assault on Americans that has been taking place over the last 20 years.

In any regard, to claim HFCS is as safe as sugar is not exactly high praise for the processed sweetener. Refined table sugar is not healthy, either. What else would have caused the need for the development of so many artificial sweeteners, but for the detriments of sugar? Substances that have been processed and stripped of the nutrients they started with are thereby depleted of enzymes that could have been used to assist in digestion. Without these vital catalysts from food, the body is forced to use its own, limited store of enzymes. Processed foods including either refined sugars or HFCS are, therefore, truly empty calories, as they provide the body with little or none of the nutrition it requires.

The need for sweetness can be met through natural sweeteners with real ingredients that come from nature’s perfect recipes for exactly what the human body craves. Unrefined sugar cane and sweeteners like agave nectar, yacon root syrup, honey and maple syrup can substitute the refined sugars and provide the body with nutrients along the way.

If HFCS were not inexpensive and profitable for its manufacturers, the CRA would not be spending millions to promote the very unnatural sweetener, which has become a staple of the American diet. There is no real concern for the health of the American public behind the HFCS campaign; its sole motivation is profit.

The retort, then, when confronted with advocates of the cheap, ubiquitous sweetener, is simple: high fructose corn syrup is not natural, it is genetically modified and it does not offer the body any nutritional benefits; on the contrary, it robs enzymes and turns quickly to fat.

There are no controversies surrounding foods that the earth provides; there is no debate over whether or not fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and herbs are “natural.” Nature holds everything the body requires. Maybe in returning to simpler, more basic sources of nutrition, Americans can finally find the sweetness they have been missing.

The Dangers Of Using Canola Oil

by BHawkIndustries

Recently I bought a cooking oil that’s new to our Health Food Stores and Supermarkets, Canola Oil. I tried it because the label assured me it was lowest in “bad” fats. However, when I had used half the bottle, I concluded that the label told me surprisingly little else and I started to wonder: Where does canola oil come from?

Coconut oil comes from coconuts, olive oil comes from olives, peanut oil from peanuts, sunflower oil from sunflowers; but what is a canola? There was nothing on the label to enlighten me, which I thought odd. So, I did some investigating on the Internet. There are plenty of official Canola sites lauding this new “wonder” oil with all its low-fat health benefits. It takes a little longer to find sites that tell the less palatable details. Here are just a few facts everyone should know before buying anything containing canola.

Canola is not the name of a natural plant but a made-up word, from the words “Canada” and “oil”. Canola is a genetically engineered plant (GMO) developed in Canada from the Rapeseed Plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants.

According to Agri-Alternatives, The Online Innovation, and Technology Magazine for Farmers, “By nature, these rapeseed oils, which have long been used to produce oils for industrial purposes, are… toxic to humans and other animals”. (This, by the way, is one of the websites singing the praises of the new canola industry.)

Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living things and is an excellent insect repellent. I have been using it (in very diluted form, as per instructions) to kill the aphids on my roses for the last two years.
It works very well; it suffocates them. Ask for it at your nursery. Rape is an oil that is used as a lubricant, fuel, soap and synthetic rubber base and as a illuminate for color pages in magazines. It is an industrial oil. It is not a food. Rape oil, it seems, causes emphysema, respiratory distress, anemia, constipation, irritability, and blindness in animals and humans. Rape oil was widely used in animal feeds in England and Europe between 1986 and 1991, when it was thrown out.

Remember the “Mad Cow disease” scare, when millions of cattle in the UKwere slaughtered in case of infecting humans? Cattle were being fed on a mixture containing material from dead sheep, and sheep suffer from a disease called “scrapie”. . It was thought this was how “Mad Cow” began and started to infiltrate the human chain. What is interesting is that when rape oil was removed from animal feed, ’scrapie’ disappeared. We also haven’t seen any further reports of “Mad Cow” since rape oil was removed from the feed. Perhaps not scientifically proven, but interesting all the same.

US and Canadian farmers grow genetically engineered rapeseed and manufacturers use its oil (canola) in thousands of processed foods. The canola supporting websites say that canola is safe to use. They admit it was developed from the rapeseed, but insist that through genetic engineering
it is no longer rapeseed, but “canola” instead. Except canola means “Canadian oil”; and the plant is still a rape plant, albeit genetically modified.

The new name provides perfect cover for commercial interests wanting to make millions. Look at the ingredients list on labels. Apparently peanut oil is being replaced with rape oil in peanut butter.

You’ll find it in an alarming number of processed foods. There’s more, but to conclude: rape oil was the source of the chemical warfare agent mustard gas, which was banned after blistering the lungs and skins of hundred of thousands of soldiers and civilians during W.W.I. Recent French reports indicate that it was again in use during the Gulf War. Check products for ingredients. If the label says, “may contain the following” and lists canola oil, you know it contains canola oil because it is the cheapest oil and the Canadian government subsidizes it to industries involved in food processing.

I don’t know what you’ll be cooking with tonight, but I’ll be using olive oil or the very healthy alternative Coconut oil.

Here is more information………. Canola oil from the rape seed, referred to as the Canadian oil because Canada is mainly responsible for it being marketed in the USA. Studies with lab animals were disastrous. Rats developed fatty degeneration of heart, kidney, adrenals, and thyroid gland. When canola oil was withdrawn from their diets, the deposits dissolved but scar tissue remained on all vital organs. No studies on humans were made before money was spent to promote Canola oil in the USA. Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare fatal degenerative disease caused by a build up long-chain fatty acids (c22 to c28) which destroys the myelin (protective sheath) of the nerves. Canola oil is a very long chain fatty acid oil (c22). Those who will defend canola oil say that the Chinese and Indians have used it for centuries with no effect, however it was in an unrefined form. (* taken from FATS THAT HEAL AND FATS THAT KILL by Udo Erasmus.)

My cholesterol level was 150. After a year using Canola oil I tested 260. I switched back to pure coconut oil and it has taken 5 years to get it down to 160. Thus began this project to find answers since most Doctors will say that Canola oil is O.K. My sister spilled Canola oil on a piece of fabric, after 5 pre-treatings and harsh washings, the oil spot still showed. She stopped using Canola oil, wondering what it did to our insides if it could not be removed from cloth easily.

Our father bred birds, always checking labels to insure there was no rapeseed in their food. He said, “The birds will eat it, but they do not live very long.”

A friend, who worked for only 9 months as a quality control taster at an apple-chip factory where Canola oil was used exclusively for frying, developed numerous health problems. These included loose teeth & gum disease; numb hands and feet; swollen arms and legs upon rising in the morning; extreme joint pain especially in hands, cloudy vision, constipation with stools like black marbles, hearing loss; skin tears from being bumped; lack of energy; hair loss and heart pains. It has been five years since she has worked there and still has some joint pain, gum disease, and numbness. A fellow worker, about 30 years old, who ate very little product, had a routine check up and found that his blood vessels were like those of an 80 year old man.

Two employees fed the waste product to baby calves and their hair fell out. (Whose hair is this
referring to- the employees or the calves?) After removing the fried apple chips from the diet their hair grew back in. My daughter and her girls were telling jokes. Stephanie hit her mom’s arm with the back of a butter knife in a gesture, “Oh mom” not hard enough to hurt. My daughter’s arm split open like it was rotten. She called me to ask what could have caused it. I said, “I’ll bet anything that you are using Canola oil”. Sure enough, there was a big gallon jug in the pantry.

Rape seed oil is a penetrating oil, to be used in light industry, not for human consumption. It contains a toxic substance. (from encyclopedia) Even after the processing to reduce the erucic acid content, it is still a penetrating oil. We have found that it turns rancid very fast. Also, it leaves a residual rancid odor on clothing. Rape seed oil used for stir-frying in China was found to emit cancer causing chemicals. (Rapeseed oil smoke causes lung cancer) Amal Kumar Maj.
Canola oil is a health hazard to use as a cooking oil or salad oil. It is not the healthy oil we thought it was. It is not fit for human consumption, do not eat canola oil, it can hurt you. Polyunsaturated or not, this is a bad oil. Be sure to also read this informative report written by leading health expert Tom Valentine, Canola Oil Report.

Don’t be fooled……Canola Oil is in everything!!! Always read the ingredients of every product you buy, anywhere!!! Even in the Health Food Stores, Canola Oil is widely used in their products. Coconut oil comes from coconuts, olive oil comes from olives, peanut oil from peanuts, sunflower oil from sunflowers; Canola Oil comes from a poisonous plant that has been Genetically Modified (GMO)

About Ampkilla – Truth Music for The People!
Ampkilla, a truth music rap artist, was born in the United States in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. His family migrated to America from Trinidad and St. Vincent–islands in the Caribbean. He grew up in Trenton, the capital city of New Jersey. Castleberry, a well-known artist from Missouri has said about him, “I’m definitely feeling the music … got some sick word play.” Ampkilla is currently working on releasing his next song. He is also working on a video for his latest track, “Wicked Ones Will Fail” and collaborating with other artists. He plans to perform his songs live in the near future. Meanwhile, he is constantly being presented new opportunities that will accelerate his music career. Ampkilla began making beats and writing rhymes in the early 1990’s around the age of 12 years old. He made a name for himself in his local neighborhood making beats and producing songs. After taking a break for several years, Ampkilla is back–and this time, he’ll be delivering truth in the form of song for the people of the world. He will be using his music to empower the movement of people around the world who are taking action to bring about justice and liberty. Ampkilla is not looking for a big budget, mainstream record deal. In fact, such an arrangement would be contrary to the grassroots approach he wishes to take in building his career. It has been demonstrated and proven that grassroots, organic activities are much more effective in spreading a message and garnering support than big budget operations. Ampkilla will be taking the music business by storm, from the bottom up….

Ernest Small and David Marcus

*This paper was considerably improved by criticism provided by A. McElroy.

“Hemp” refers primarily to Cannabis sativa L. (Cannabaceae), although the term has been applied to dozens of species representing at least 22 genera, often prominent fiber crops. For examples, Manila hemp (abaca) is Musa textilis Née, sisal hemp is Agave sisalina Perrine, and sunn hemp is Crotolaria juncea L. Especially confusing is the phrase “Indian hemp,” which has been used both for narcotic Asian land races of C. sativa (so-called C. indica Lamarck of India) and Apocynum cannabinum L., which was used by North American Indians as a fiber plant. Cannabis sativa is a multi-purpose plant that has been domesticated for bast (phloem) fiber in the stem, a multi-purpose fixed oil in the “seeds” (achenes), and an intoxicating resin secreted by epidermal glands. The common names hemp and marijuana (much less frequently spelled marihuana) have been applied loosely to all three forms, although historically hemp has been used primarily for the fiber cultigen and its fiber preparations, and marijuana for the drug cultigen and its drug preparations. The current hemp industry is making great efforts to point out that “hemp is not marijuana.” Italicized, Cannabis refers to the biological name of the plant (only one species of this genus is commonly recognized, C. sativa L.). Non-italicized, “cannabis” is a generic abstraction, widely used as a noun and adjective, and commonly (often loosely) used both for cannabis plants and/or any or all of the intoxicant preparations made from them.

Probably indigenous to temperate Asia, C. sativa is the most widely cited example of a “camp follower.” It was pre-adapted to thrive in the manured soils around man’s early settlements, which quickly led to its domestication (Schultes 1970). Hemp was harvested by the Chinese 8500 years ago (Schultes and Hofmann 1980). For most of its history, C. sativa was most valued as a fiber source, considerably less so as an intoxicant, and only to a limited extent as an oilseed crop. Hemp is one of the oldest sources of textile fiber, with extant remains of hempen cloth trailing back 6 millennia. Hemp grown for fiber was introduced to western Asia and Egypt, and subsequently to Europe somewhere between 1000 and 2000 BCE. Cultivation in Europe became widespread after 500 ce. The crop was first brought to South America in 1545, in Chile, and to North America in Port Royal, Acadia in 1606. The hemp industry flourished in Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois between 1840 and 1860 because of the strong demand for sailcloth and cordage (Ehrensing 1998). From the end of the Civil War until 1912, virtually all hemp in the US was produced in Kentucky. During World War I, some hemp cultivation occurred in several states, including Kentucky, Wisconsin, California, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Kansas, and Iowa (Ehrensing 1998). The second world war led to a brief revival of hemp cultivation in the Midwest, as well as in Canada, because the war cut off supplies of fiber (substantial renewed cultivation also occurred in Germany for the same reason). Until the beginning of the 19th century, hemp was the leading cordage fiber. Until the middle of the 19th century, hemp rivaled flax as the chief textile fiber of vegetable origin, and indeed was described as “the king of fiber-bearing plants,—the standard by which all other fibers are measured” (Boyce 1900). Nevertheless, the Marihuana Tax Act applied in 1938 essentially ended hemp production in the United States, although a small hemp fiber industry continued in Wisconsin until 1958. Similarly in 1938 the cultivation of Cannabis became illegal in Canada under the Opium and Narcotics Act.

Hemp, grown under license mostly in Canada, is the most publicized “new” crop in North America. Until very recently the prohibition against drug forms of the plant prevented consideration of cultivation of fiber and oilseed cultivars in Canada. However, in the last 10 years three key developments occurred: (1) much-publicized recent advances in the legal cultivation of hemp in western Europe, especially for new value-added products; (2) enterprising farmers and farm groups became convinced of the agricultural potential of hemp in Canada, and obtained permits to conduct experimental cultivation; and (3) lobby groups convinced the government of Canada that narcotic forms of the hemp plant are distinct and distinguishable from fiber and oilseed forms. In March 1998, new regulations (under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) were provided to allow the commercial development of a hemp industry in Canada, and since then more than a thousand licenses have been issued. Hectares licensed for cultivation for 1998–2001 were respectively, 2,500, 14,200, 5,487, and 1,355, the decreasing trend due to a glut of seed produced in 1999 and pessimism over new potential regulations barring exports to the US. Information on the commercial potential of hemp in Canada is in Blade (1998), Marcus (1998), and Pinfold Consulting (1998). In the US, a substantial trade in hemp products has developed, based on imports of hemp fiber, grain, and oil. The American agricultural community has observed this, and has had success at the state level in persuading legislators of the advisability of experimental hemp cultivation as a means of evaluating the wisdom of re-establishing American hemp production. However, because of opposition by the federal government, to date there has only been a small experimental plot in Hawaii. Information on the commercial potential of hemp in the US is presented in the following.

Cannabis sativa is extremely unusual in the diversity of products for which it is or can be cultivated. Popular Mechanics magazine (1938) touted hemp as “the new billion dollar crop,” stating that it “can be used to produce more than 25,000 products, ranging from dynamite to Cellophane.” Table 1 presents the principal products for which the species is cultivated in Europe, all of which happen to be based on fiber. This presentation stresses the products that hold the most promise for North America, which also include a considerable range of oilseed applications (Table 2; Fig. 1)…

Statement Before the Joint Economic Committee, November 8, 2007

Mr. Chairman, our economy finds itself in a precarious state. Oil prices are rising, gold is nearing all-time highs, and the dollar is nearing all-time lows. The root of this crisis, as with past financial and economic crises, results from federal government intervention into the economy, not to anything endemic to the market, nor to the actions of market participants.

The collapse of the housing market has served as a catalyst for the economy’s latest bust. For years the federal government has made it one of its prime aims to encourage homeownership among people who otherwise would not be able to afford homes. Various federal mortgage programs through the FHA, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac have distorted the normal workings of the housing market.

The implicit government backing of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac provides investors an incentive to provide funds to Fannie and Freddie that otherwise would have been put to use in other sectors of the economy. It was this flood of investor capital that helped to fuel the housing bubble.

Legislation such as the Zero Downpayment Act and the misnamed American Dream Downpayment Act made it possible for people who could not afford down payments on houses to receive assistance from the federal government, or even to pay no down payment at all, courtesy of the taxpayers. The requirement of a down payment has always helped to ascertain the ability of a buyer to pay off a mortgage. It requires the buyer to show hard work and thrift, the ability to delay present consumption in order to make a larger acquisition in the future.

When this requirement is minimized or eliminated, you introduce a new class of homebuyers, people who are unable to budget and save for the purchase of a home, or who should wait for a few years until they have saved enough to purchase a home. Federal policies have encouraged investors, lenders, and brokers to cater to these people, so it is no surprise that market actors came up with ever more sophisticated means of bringing these people into the real estate market.

Finally, the Federal Reserve’s loose monetary policy and lowering of interest rates were a major spur to the housing boom. Low interest rates influence marginal buyers, those who are sitting on the fence, and encourage them to take on a mortgage that they otherwise would not. Even when interest rates are raised, no one expects them to stay high for long, as there is always pressure from politicians and investors to keep rates low, as no one wants the cheap credit to end.

Thinking that interest rates will cycle from low to higher, back to low, lenders begin to offer adjustable rate mortgages, 2/28’s, 3/27’s, and other sophisticated mortgages that may trap many unsavvy buyers. Buyers go short, lenders go long, and many people have been burned as a result.

It is time that the federal government get out of the housing business. Through our interventionist legislation we have caused the boom and bust, and any attempts at reform that fail to address the causes of our current problem will only sow the seeds for the next bubble.
